Monitoring, evaluation, and reporting

MTAs are largely an instrument of trust as they are difficult to monitor after their implementation. Breaches of terms may never be ascertained.

It is common to include provisions governing reports on the use of material provided under the MTA, including the provision of information covering results, updates on how much material has been used, and how much remains. Reporting requirements can encourage good behaviour.

Some MTAs specify how and when reports should be made. This can include both regular update reports and a more in-depth final report after the intended purpose has been completed.

In other cases, depending upon the intended purpose of the transfer, more detailed oversight of the planned work might be desirable. This section could also detail agreements for monitoring or evaluating the work undertaken. This might include reviewing the implementation of good practices, such as laboratory biosafety and biosecurity.
