Governance reform
Member States consultative process on governance reform
In decision EB136(16), the Executive Board decided, inter alia, to establish an inclusive Member States consultative process on governance reform, to complete its work by the Sixty-ninth World Health Assembly in May 2016, providing recommendations through the Executive Board in January 2016 on how to improve WHO governance efficiency.
As part of this process, in decision EB136(16), the Director-General was requested, among other things, to establish this online platform to facilitate sharing of Member States’ inputs and proposals, and to maintain it throughout the inclusive Member States consultative process.
In line with decision EB136(16), the Secretariat will aim to provide the following on this platform: a compendium of existing relevant background documents related to governance reform, including reports, evaluations, resolutions and decisions; an overview of the last 10 years
of the number of agenda items, documents, decisions and resolutions for the Executive Board and Health Assembly, as well as the number of formal and informal meetings during and between sessions of the governing bodies, and the associated costs; and a current costing of formal and informal meetings during and between sessions of the governing bodies, including price differences relating to location in Geneva.
