  1. To support WHO’s work on better understanding of the circulating bacterial pathogens with the purpose of monitoring, tracking and combating bacterial pathogens, through research  
  2. At the request of WHO, to support WHO’s capacity building efforts on phenotypic and molecular diagnostics of bacterial pathogens 
  3. Provide, upon request by WHO, laboratory diagnostic support at regional or global levels for the identification and characterization of bacterial pathogens for surveillance and for emergency outbreak response.
