Benzoic acid + salicylic acid (Whitfield’s ointment)
Ointment or cream, 6% + 3%
A combination that associates the fungistatic action of benzoic acid with the keratolytic action of salicylic acid.
Treatment of mild superficial fungal infections, particularly tinea pedis, tinea corporis and, occasionally, tinea capitis.
Adults and children: a thin layer of ointment or cream should be applied twice daily to all infected areas for at least 4 weeks.
Benzoic acid + salicylic acid should not come in contact with the eyes.
Use in pregnancy and lactation
Topically applied benzoic acid + salicylic acid is not systemically absorbed and can be used safely during pregnancy and lactation.
Occasionally, a localized mild inflammatory response occurs.
Ointment and cream should be stored in a cool place.
