Cancer Pain Relief with a Guide to Opioid Availability. Second Edition, 1996
(1996; 70 pages)

In most part of the world, the majority of cancer patients present with advanced disease. For them, the only realistic treatment option is pain relief and palliative care. In 1996, the first edition of this publication proposed a method for relief of cancer pain, based on a small number of relatively inexpensive drugs, including morphine. Field-testing in several countries demonstrated the efficacy of the method in most cancer patients.

This second edition takes into account many of the advances in understanding and practice that have occurred since the mid-1980s. Each part of the book has been added on opioid availability. It is important to note that cancer pain management should be undertaken as part of comprehensive palliative care.
