Guidelines for Surveillance of Drug Resistance in Tuberculosis – 5th edition
(2015; 76 pages)

This fifth edition of the WHO “Guidelines for surveillance of drug resistance in tuberculosis” presents up-to-date guidance on the design and implementation of setting-specific surveys and surveillance systems to measure the burden and trends of drug-resistant tuberculosis. The guidelines incorporate the wealth of experience gained from 20 years of the Global Project on Anti-Tuberculosis Drug Resistance Surveillance. The document presents new guidance on: (i) the incorporation of molecular technologies into surveys, (ii) the use of sentinel surveillance to monitor trends in drug resistance over time in countries with recent, high quality survey data but without the capacity for routine continuous surveillance.
