Products of SPF 15 or higher with added broad-spectrum cover are prepared by using a combination of one or more of these chemicals. Concentrations range from 1% to 10%, depending on the particular chemical and government regulations.
These products absorb light in both the ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B range.
To prevent sunburn, premature ageing of the skin, and skin cancer and related lesions. These products may also provide some protection against photosensitive disorders due to ultraviolet B and/or ultraviolet A.
Dosage and administration
Adults and children: products should be applied to all exposed areas at least 30 minutes before exposure to sunlight. Water-resistant products should be used for swimming or wet work. Products should be reapplied every 1-2 hours or after swimming or profuse sweating.
Non-allergic contact dermatitis, especially around the eyes, is common. Allergic contact dermatitis, acneiform eruptions and contact urticaria are less common reactions.
Preparations should be stored in tightly closed containers, protected from light.
