p-Aminobenzoic acid (PABA)

These products absorb mainly ultraviolet B.
To prevent sunburn, premature ageing of the skin, and skin cancer and related lesions. It may also provide some protection in photosensitive disorders caused by ultraviolet B.
Dosage and administration
Adults and children: products should be applied generously to all exposed areas at least 30 minutes before exposure to sunlight. Water-resistant products should be used for swimming or wet work. Products should be reapplied every 1-2 hours or after swimming or profuse sweating.
Contact dermatitis and photosensitivity occur more commonly than with other sunscreen products. p-Aminobenzoic acid is now used less frequently in commercial sunscreens for this reason.
Preparations should be stored in tightly closed containers, protected from light.
