Ointment or cream, 1-3%
Clioquinol is a hydroxyquinoline with antibacterial activity which can be used as an alternative to neomycin + bacitracin.
• Treatment of superficial bacterial skin infections including impetigo.
• General antisepsis of the skin.
Dosage and administration
Adults and children over 2 years: a thin layer of ointment or cream should be applied to the affected skin twice daily until symptoms have resolved.
Age under 2 years.
Absorption through the skin may occur in amounts sufficient to interfere with thyroid function tests.
Irritant reactions and contact allergic dermatitis occasionally occur. Reversible yellow staining of skin and clothing may also occur.
Preparations should be stored in tightly closed containers, protected from light.
