Carbamate pesticides: a general introduction
Открыть
Резюме
A discussion of the hazards to health and the environment associated with the widespread agricultural use of carbamate pesticides as insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, nematocides, and sprout inhibitors. Because of the exceptionally large number of carbamates developed and marketed over the past 40 years, the book concentrates on the analysis of selected well-known carbamates that can be used to illustrate the kinds of data available and the range of known or suspected risks. The main part is devoted to a detailed assessment of toxicity. Information includes a review of studies on the metabolism and fate of carbamate pesticides in plants, which are of particular value in the assessment of hazards to humans consuming contaminated fruits and vegetables. A discussion of effects on experimental animals and in vitro test systems summarizes what has been learned after more than two decades of short- and long-term toxicity studies. A final section concentrates on risks associated with occupational exposure in spraymen applying these insecticidesОписание
