Member States of the WHO South-East Asia Region in their efforts to achieve the targets outlined in the Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5 have set in motion many strategies and activities based on country contexts and needs. The Regional Workshop on Strengthening the Maternal and Newborn Health Programme provided a platform for functionaries to learn from the countries how effective this strategy has been and what more is needed to be done to strengthen the programme. The general objective of the meeting was to strengthen country capacities in managing maternal and newborn health programme and improving the quality of maternal and newborn health service. The workshop provided a platform to countries to share country situations and experiences on different aspects of maternal and newborn health programme and discuss relevant guidelines, standards and tools for improving maternal and newborn health programme management and quality of care. At the end of the workshop, country participants drafted a country framework for strengthening the maternal and newborn health programme.Citação
