Abstract
Vector control plays a key role in prevention and control of major vector-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue, leishmaniasis and chikungunya etc. The use of pesticides remains a key element in the integrated approach to vector control. However, the long-term sustainability of vector control is threatened due to growing insecticide resistance. Furthermore, pesticides are toxic compounds and their improper use may pose a risk to human health or the environment. The development and implementation of effective guideline for the sound management of public health pesticides is a first step in assuring long-term sustainability of vector control. The guidelines discuss issues and driving forces for national policy development. They also provide guidance on the process of policy formulation, implementation and evaluation.Citation
