Functions of WHO: Article 2 of the Constitution, Report of the Regional Director
Abstract1. A Special Group set up by the Executive Board to review the Constitution of the Organization met several times to consider WHO's mission and functions and the provisions of the Constitution that might need further examination with a view to possible revision. The Group also considered questions relating to WHO regional arrangements within the framework of the existing Constitution. 2. The report of the Special Group is contained in document EB 101/7 of 14 November, 1997. At the eighth meeting of the 10lst Session of the Board, it was decided that the Director-General should ensure that the revised text of Article 2 as contained in the report of the Special Group is reviewed at all levels of the Organization during the course of 1998 and a final text, reflecting the broad consultative process, submitted to the Executive Board at its 103rd Session in January 1999. 3. This document, which is the revised text of Article 2 of the Constitution, is submitted to the Regional Committee for review and comments which will be sent to the Director-General as the Region's input to the preparation of the final text of Article 2 to he presented to the 103rd Session of the Executive Board.
