Information management for municipal solid waste management services
AbstractThis document is intended to serve as a guide to municipal authorities responsible for solid waste management in developing their information management systems. The document is directed towards those municipal officials who formulate solid waste management plans and supervise operation of solid waste collection and disposal services, but have little experience in developing information management systems. It is not specifically written for designers of computer-based information management system as the emphasis is placed on what information should be collected and how it should be processed and utilized, rather than how computers can be used for the management of such information. In this document, the importance of information management for planning, designing and operating municipal solid waste management systems is first presented. This is followed by a discourse on the framework for evaluation of solid waste management services, from which the categorization of information required is derived. A list of indicators useful for evaluating solid waste management services, according to functional elements of solid waste management, follows
