Abstract
The WHO project on obstetrical quality development through the integrated use of telematics (OBSQID) is aimed at continually and effectively promoting the development of quality in perinatal care, with an emphasis on obstetrics. The project involves an extensive network of health care professionals, authorities, researchers, professional associations and third-party payers throughout the WHO European Region. Workshops organized by the WHO Regional Office for Europe have developed data collection tools for the project. At the Third Workshop on Quality Development in Perinatal Care, in 1996, the participants discussed the results of the pilot tests of one of these tools (the basic information sheet - BIS), considered the options for data collection systems and made recommendations on: updating BIS, suggesting indicators for the wellbeing of mothers and infants, facilitating intervention programmes, developing guidelines and a framework for national policies on quality development in perinatal care, and suggesting future activities within the OBSQID projectCitation
