- 1. To advise on the surveillance of retrovirus diseases, particularly HIV & SIV-like retroviruses in humans. 2. To advise on epidemiological investigations on AIDS & related diseases. 3. To collate epidemiological & other pertinent information & make it available to WHO. 4. To design & participate in WHO collaborating studies to determine the natural history of the disease. 5. To provide laboratory reference services in consultation with WHO. 6. To advise on serological testing systems for HIV in developing countries. 7. To provide reference panels of sera. 8. To advise on the production of working reagents. 9. To prepare test guidelines. 10. To train laboratory & public health personnel. 11. To organize meetings on behalf of WHO.
