- To coordinate with WHO and serve as a centre for training eye health personnel on various ophthalmic techniques, applicable at different levels of health facilities
- To collaborate with the Regional Office and national institutions in promoting and organizing events related the field of eye care/blindness prevention
- To implement WHO’s guidelines to prevent blindness due to diabetic retinopathy through conducting diabetic screening programmes
- To undertake relevant operational research in the area of eye health/prevention of blindness in line with WHO’s guidelines for Prevention of Blindness Programme
