- To provide training opportunities on traditional medicine.
Brief description on the term:
Despite the wide use and practice of TM/CAM in many European countries including Italy, there are still insufficient opportunities given for official training in this field. The Centre will provide training opportunities on traditional medicine to medical doctors and other health providers.

- To carry out research in Traditional Medicine.
Brief description on the term:
Evidence based TM/CAM is very important to enable TM/CAM to be more accepted. Under this term, several new research projects on clinical study on TM/CAM products and therapies will be formulated. The Centre will formulate and conduct research on traditional medicine, including homeopathy, osteopathy, acupuncture and medicinal plants.

- To carry out pilot research on cost-effectiveness of TM/CAM: evaluating the economic advantage of TM/CAM applied to health care in Lombardy Region, in cooperation with the Directorate General of Health of the Lombardy Region and the Regional Institute of Research of Lombardy (IReR).
Brief description on the term:
National and Lombardy region health authorities are interested in integrating TM/CAM in the primary health care, if this could generate economic savings. The Centre will work with the Regional Government of Lombardy (Directorate General of Health), in collaboration with the Regional Institute of Research of Lombardy (IReR), to formulate and conduct pilot surveys and research on cost-effectiveness on the use of TM/CAM in the Lombardy Region, to evaluate its economic advantage in their local health care system

- To promote and advocate proper use of TM/CAM by consumers in Lombardy Region, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Health of the Lombardy Region and the Regional Institute of Research of Lombardy (IReR)
Brief description on the term:
TM/CAM is popularly used in self-care by consumers. In close collaboration with Directorate General of Health of the Lombardy Region and the Regional Institute of Research of Lombardy, the Centre will collate and disseminate information on TM/CAM for proper use of TM/CAM by consumers in Lombardy Region .

- To support the Regional Government of Lombardy to integrate TM/CAM in the health care system in cooperation with the Regional Institute of Research (IReR).
Brief description on the term:
In cooperation with the Regional Institute of Research (IReR), the Centre will gather information and make analysis on the principle of subsidiarity, to provide the Regional Government of Lombardy and other Governments - which could be interested - with suggested models for facilitating the integration of TM/CAM in the healthcare system.

- To organize relevant WHO meetings to implement activities included in the second MOU between WHO and the Regional Government of Lombardy
Brief description on the term:
The Centre will support the implementation of the Second Cooperation Plan on TM/CAM between WHO and the Regional Government of Lombardy and will support organizing WHO meetings according to the Cooperation Plan.

- To mobilize resources in support WHO’s Traditional Medicine activities.
Brief description on the term:
The centre will continue to mobilize resources from the Lombardy Region and explore possible funding for WHO from other potential partners and donors among Italian regions, national government, foundations, nongovernmental organizations and professional associations.
