  1. To assist in the development & implementation of national drug policies. 
  2. To provide guidance on development & implementation of good professional practice within the pharmaceutical sector. 
  3. To advice on developing plans for human resource development & organizing education activities. 
  4. To promote & stimulate professional contacts & networks. 
  5. To support the WHO prequalification programme (quality control laboratory, prequalification studies) 
  6. To support in development of specifications for inclusion in the International Pharmacopoeia and related laboratory guidelines 
  7. Contribution to new draft medicines quality assurance guidelines and standards, according to the work programme recommended by the Expert Committee on Specifications for Pharmaceutical Preparations 
  8. To support the WHO Interbational Regulatory Collaboration on Herbals (IRCH) by providing the national contact point
