Terms of Reference:
- 1- Improve the management of asthma and allergic rhinitis from current knowledge and find new therapeutic strategies: The links between the upper and the lower airways are increasingly important in terms of the diagnosis and management of chronic respiratory diseases. They should be studied in their totality and should be viewed from a health-economic perspective. The first term of the WHO CC was based on these links and the ARIA initiative has been largely disseminated throughout the world. However, there is a need for an update which began in the third year of the WHO CC term and is now in progress.
- 2- Better understand the links between rhinitis and asthma from allergic origin and disseminate the information: Disseminate the scientific information concerning the united airway concept with special emphasis on developing countries to (i) improve the knowledge on risk factors and surveillance, (ii) facilitate early detection and prevention, (iii) improve the diagnosis and cost-effective management and (iv) organize seminars and training courses.
- 3- Provide assistance for the collection of GARD documents to be updated on the Website
- 4- Provide assistance for GARD meetings
- 5- Find and apply novel strategies for the prevention and treatment of allergic diseases including asthma and rhinitis: Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) affect 10 to 20% of hospitalized patients and more than 7% of the general population. Hypersensitivity drug reactions are but one of the many different types of ADRs. They represent about one third of all ADRs. They may be potentially life-threatening, prolong hospitalization, affect drug prescribing patterns of physicians and result in socioeconomic costs. The respiratory tract (upper and lower airways) is one of the target organs of drug hypersensitivity reactions which will be studied using a database validated by the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and GA2LEN, a EU network of excellence
