Terms of Reference:
  1. 1. To study acupuncture theory and formulate innovative methodological approaches for further development of acupuncture: To carry out systematic researches on acupuncture theory, which include study of meridians and collaterals, study on acupuncture standardization and acupuncture developing strategies; to explore modern expression mode and scientific meaning of classical acupuncture theories; to formulate both national and international standards on acupuncture; and to propose new ways of thinking and develop methodologies for the future development of acupuncture. 
  2. 2. To conduct research on the action mechanism of acupuncture effects: Study on acupuncture mechanism and exploration on principles of acupuncture effect should be carried out. Researches will focus on mechanisms of action in nerve-secretion-immune networks and biochemical studies. Conduct studies on the mechanism of propagated sensation and the specific connections between meridians, collaterals and zang-fu organs. Expand research on meridian and collateral theories. 
  3. 3. To conduct clinical research on acupuncture and moxibustion: Aiming at enhancing the therapeutic effect of acupuncture and moxibuxtion, researches will focus on: dose-effect relations in acupuncture; selection of acupuncture manipulations; evaluation of the therapeutic effects of acupuncture and application of moxibustion. 
  4. 4. To perfect acupuncture training, and to provide educational chance for doctors and medical practitioners all over the world.
