Welcome to WHOs Road Safety Legislation database
This database provides information on road safety legislation in countries around the world. The data has been collected with input from WHO partner organizations around the world The database contains information on legislation around a number of risk factors for road traffic injuries - speed limits, seat belt and child restraint use, helmet use, blood alcohol limits, daytime running lamps, mobile phone use. Information on countries' lead agencies for road safety is also provided.
Using the drop-down menus shown, you may search the database by risk factor and lead road safety agency, by country, and by WHO region (for a list of which countries fall into which region please click here)
The database provides only a brief overview around a legislation on a particular risk factor. For more detailed information on a particular topic, there are links to other documents that can be downloaded, as well as links to other relevant websites.
Help us keep the database up to date
Countries' road safety legislation is constantly changing. WHO will aim to update the database on a regular basis in order to ensure legislation shown is current. To do this effectively we will rely on information from partner organizations working in the field. If you are a partner organizations and are aware of new or changing information on road safety legislation please email us using traffic@who.int.
Please note that the database is not yet complete for all countries. As of July 2005 data from over 50 countries had been entered into this database. Data from more countries will be entered as we receive it from our partner organizations.
