Key inclusion & exclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Female gender
Age from 65 to 80 years
Obesity (BIM equal or more than 30 kg/m2)
Sarcopenia (hand-grip strength equal or lower than 21 kgf)

Exclusion criteria: Physical, sensory or cognitive disfunctions that do not allow participation in the exercise programs; cardiovascular, articular or metabolic disease in acute phase or not clinically controlled;urinary or fecal incontinence; contagious dermatologic diseases; open scars; physical therapy for lower limbs; fracture or surgery for lower limbs in the last 12 months; severe venous insufficience.

Intervention(s)
Group 1: Land-based resistance exercises

Group 2: Resistance exercises in therapeutic pool.

Group 3: Control with therapeutic follow-up

Groups 1 and 2 will perform exercises for developing strength and power of knee and hip muscles. Exercise programs will last 10 weeks, with two sessions weekly.

Group 3 will receive a therapeutic follow-up trough telephonic calls once a week, for the same period.
Primary Outcome(s)
Functional capacity of locomotion, measured through the tests:
Usual gail speed (m/s)
Maximal gait speed(Shuttle Walking Test)
Ascending and descending stairs speed(m/s)
Short Physical Battery (SPPB)
Muscle performance of lower limbs (knee and hip), measured in the Biodex isokinetic dinamometer:
Strength in Nm/kg of body weight
Power in w/kg of body weight

Secondary Outcome(s)
Quality of life related to health, recorded by the questionnaire Medical Outcomes Study Short Form (SF-36), in the translated and validated version to Brazil
