Key inclusion & exclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria: Participants were supposed to have their own mobile phone and enable to send and receive Persian text messages via their own cellular phone. Other inclusion criteria were as follow: being at the age range of 25 to 55 years old, being overweight or obese (BMI = 25) not taking medications known to cause weight gain, not being pregnant or breastfeeding, not being in the 6-months post-partum period, not being under specific diet or exercise program.
Exclusion criteria: Participants were excluded if they have a serious physical and mental illness, get pregnant or enter in a special diet or exercise program during the study.

Intervention(s)
Intervention group: Attending a face to face educational session and receipting a booklet contained food calorie chart and strategies and recommendations for weight control and receiving two interactive messages daily about weight control for two months, also they were asked to send weekly self monitored weight for 8 weeks and received feedback.
Intervention 1: Control group: Attending a face to face educational session and receipting a booklet contained food calorie chart and strategies and recommendations for weight control. Intervention 2: Intervention group: Attending a face to face educational session and receipting a booklet contained food calorie chart and strategies and recommendations for weight control and receiving two interactive messages daily about weight control for two months, also they were asked to send weekly self monitored weight for 8 weeks and received feedback.

Primary Outcome(s)
Body mass index (BMI). Timepoint: before intervention and after intervention(after 3 months). Method of measurement: Total body weights and heights were obtained with a digital adult calibrated scale (model 708, Seca, Germany, 0.01 kg) and a wall-mounted stadiometer (model 206 Seca, 0.1cm), respectively. Body mass index (BMI; in kg/m2) was calculated.
Food habits. Timepoint: before intervention and after intervention(after 3 months). Method of measurement: self-making food habits questionnair.
