Key inclusion & exclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Age < 12
2. Undergoing exploratory laparotomy via transverse incision
3. Expected survival greater than 31 days
4. Septic focus controlled and lavage done before randomization
5. Informed consent by parents

Exclusion criteria: 1. Participating in another intervention
2. Coagulopathy (assessed by INR)
3. Undergoing immunosuppressive therapy
4. Had chemotherapy within 2 weeks of surgery
5. Had radiotherapy within 8 weeks of surgery
6. Had a previous laparotomy in the past 31 days

Age maximum: 12 Years

Any disease which required exploratory Lapartomy in children from newborns to 12 years of age.

After patient selection the patient was closed randomly by either continuous or interrupted mass closure techniques after exploratory laparotomy.
