Key inclusion & exclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Children and adolescents aged 7:17 years; both genders; enrolled in elementary or middle school of municipal, state or private schools, urban or rural area, the municipality of Santa Cruz / RN; presenting scoliosis posture after physical therapy evaluation.
Exclusion criteria: Children and adolescents with physical disabilities and / or mental injury and orthopedic, trauma and / or rheumatic preventing the maintenance of orthostatic position.

The research will be developed in two stages, concomitantly, with a total of 240 schools: 1) postural education in schools of the municipality of Santa Cruz, RN; 2) Physical therapy treatment of those students who present with suspected postural scoliosis. In the study of Postural Education, attend approximately 210 students from public and private schools, and will consist of two sessions, with weekly frequency, and approximate duration of one hour, consisting of recreational and educational activities about posture. The other phase of the project will consist of intervention through therapeutic exercises Klapp method in 15 children (treatment group), which will be compared to the control group (15 children without intervention). The treatment group will hold 20 sessions Klapp method, with an average of 30 to 40 minutes each session, often twice weekly. The control group did not receive intervention.

Primary Outcome(s)
|
Increased knowledge of students about the postural habits and correct to be adopted during activities of daily living (ADLs) posture; improved postural alignment evaluated by computerized photogrammetry, those students with scoliosis or postural changes.
|
No difference in learning the different postures during daily activities of school after shares of postural development was observed. Regarding the action of physical therapy intervention, there was no significant difference in body symmetry between the control and treatment, although there was maintaining the degree of scoliosis (or non-progression of scoliosis) in the treatment group.

Secondary Outcome(s)
|
Verification of increased paraspinal muscle strength measured by the dorsal hand dynamometer.
|
There was no difference in paraspinal muscle strength after intervention by comparing control and treatment group. However, the analysis before and after the treatment group, there was increased paraspinal muscle strength after the intervention.
