Key inclusion & exclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. A definite diagnosis of type 2 diabetes was made at the start of the study;
2. Permanent residents in cold areas of northern China;
3. Can provide outpatient or inpatient examination list for tertiary A hospital.

Exclusion criteria: 1. other types of diabetes;
2. suffering from pancreatitis or other pancreatic diseases in the past or present;
3. the existence of infectious diseases (hepatitis, tuberculosis, etc.);
4. moderate and severe renal insufficiency (defined as MDRD eGFR [glomerular filtration rate calculated by using the MDRD formula]<60ml/min/1.73m2);
5. suffering from other eye diseases (glaucoma, uveitis, etc.);
6. congestive heart failure (NYHA grade III~IV);
7. severe mental illness.
