Key inclusion & exclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Aged 18 years or older who were scheduled for laparoscopic abdominal surgery under general anaesthesia.
Exclusion criteria: (1) had severe cardiac or pulmonary comorbidities or another disorder that might have compromised safe trial procedure; (2) had a body-mass index higher than 40 kg.m-2; (3) presence of pregnancy, tracheostomy, facial, neck, or chest wall abnormalities; (4) abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery, chemotherapy, or immunosuppressive therapy within 3 months; (5) unwilling or unable to give informed consent.
