In memoriam

Laudi Ferdinand Biegel, a former TDR finance officer best known to colleagues and friends as Fredy, passed away on 27 February 2009 at the age of 78. Fredy first joined WHO in 1971 as a personnel officer in the Regional Office for Africa. His next assignment was as administrative officer for a reproductive health project in Bangkok. He moved to WHO headquarters in Geneva in 1973 and retired from TDR in 1990. Fredy was a very conscientious colleague who paid meticulous attention to detail. In the years before computerization he was known for his efficiency in preparing a note for the record of each contribution received in TDR, facilitating prompt acknowledgements and expressions of thanks to donors.
