Grants and other funding activitiesTDR funds specific research projects in diseases of poverty, which cover infectious diseases and the culture and environment that contribute to these problems. We also support the development of individuals and institutions in the countries where these diseases are prevalent. ResearchWe fund research designed to find innovative ways to develop new drugs, barriers to the insects and worms that carry the parasites, diagnostics and other tools against infectious diseases in developing countries. We also look for new ways to distribute and increase access to these tools. Our research plans are developed by steering committees in each of our business lines. Work led by researchers from disease endemic countries is always one of our top considerations. EmpowermentTraining, building research teams, partnerships, linkages, infrastructure development and improved communication are all supported by TDR to enhance the capacity of target disease-endemic countries to carry out research. Since its inception in 1975, TDR has provided support to train over 1200 scientists. Many of these scientists have gone on to build research groups, with some becoming leading experts in their fields of research nationally and internationally. In addition, many institutions have become leading centres of research. |
