Chapter 1 of this handbook helps groups to develop an understanding about:
• care, support and treatment - including how they are defined, how they are connected, and where they can be provided; • the links between treatment and prevention and how they can combine to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS;
• barriers to access to treatment and how they prevent people living with HIV/AIDS from getting effective treatment; and
• how access to treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS relates to: - the HIV/AIDS epidemic and its context - other aspects of health care - social and economic conditions.
