Ipronidazole in veterinary medicines - marketing authorization revoked: carcinogenicity: Germany

Germany. The Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices has revoked the marketing authorization for veterinary products containing ipronidazole because there is a substantiated suspicion that the product has unacceptable damaging effects and because of the scientifically supported assumption that ipronidazole, like metronidazole, has a genotoxic-carcinogenic potential for target animals and for humans, through possible residues in edible tissues.
