Teicoplanin: revised data sheet: risk of superinfection: Hoechst Marion Roussel, United Kingdom.

The manufacturer of the glycopeptide antibiotic, teicoplanin (Targocid: Hoechst Marion Roussel), has revised the precautions section of the data sheet relating to superinfection to state that, as with other antibiotics, the use of teicoplanin, especially if prolonged, may result in overgrowth of non- susceptible organisms. The drug interactions section now states that teicoplanin should be used with care in conjunction or sequentially with other drugs with known nephrotoxic or ototoxic potential. The section on adverse reactions has also been updated.
