The South African Medicines Control Council has withdrawn registration of all 2 mg formulations of flunitrazepam and has scheduled 1 mg tablets in Schedule 6 of the Narcotic Drugs Regulations. It has also decreed that all flunitrazepam- containing products be reformulated to include a bitter taste and colorant in order to minimize risk of illegal use in facilitating crimes.
