Pharma Futures. Shared Value: Rebuilding Pharma’s Contract with Society. PharmaFutures 4 (PF4)
(2010; 40 pages)

Abstract

"Shared Value: Rebuilding Pharma’s Contract with Society" is the fourth report of the PharmaFutures project and is the result of dialogue between global institutional investors and major pharmaceutical companies. It explores the growing challenge of reconciling unmet patient need with pharmaceutical R&D, in the context of changes in what society is willing to pay for and concerns among investors about the return on investment. The report concludes that the industry needs to reframe its social contract to ensure that market signals about unmet patient need and incentives for R&D are better aligned, and offers recommendations to society, industry and investors to help make this happen. PF4 ran from September 2010 until June 2011 with a diverse group of people and partners contributing to the project throughout. The Working Group members worked collaboratively to develop the analysis presented in the report.
