Since the first case of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome was reported in Kenya in 1984, HIV/AIDS has continued to have a devasting impact on all sectors of the society. The prevalence of HIV infected individuals in Kenya has fallen from 14% in 1998 to 7% in 2003 with an estimated 1.5 million Kenyans living with the virus.
