4.3 Education and Training

All health care providers of traditional medicine should be encouraged and required to have proper training in both traditional and conventional medicine, as their training and skills will affect the safety and efficacy of the treatment. The practitioners’ knowledge and skills need to be continuously upgraded to enable them to engage in clinical research within their own individual specialty, if necessary. The WHO Guidelines on basic training and safety in acupuncture5 provides an example of training for all health care providers of acupuncture.
