Each year ministers of health and other delegates from WHO's l87 Member States,
together with representatives from over 40 non-governmental organizations, gather in
Geneva to share experience, debate global public health issues, and as the Organization's
supreme governing body, review activities and approve future strategy, budget and
programmes. At this year's 47th World Health Assembly in May pharmaceuticals were a major
agenda item. Debate centred on two issues: progress in the implementation of WHO's Revised
Drug Strategy, and WHO Ethical Criteria for Medical Drug Promotion.
