Chiggers or harvest mites are biting ectoparasites that induce erythematous urticarial papules. Severe urticarial and granulomatous lesions accompanied by fever and lymphadenopathy occur in sensitized individuals.

Prevention and management

Protective clothing and insect repellents such as diethyl-toluamide should be used when exposure is anticipated. Calamine lotion may be used to relieve pruritus.
