A memorandum of understanding was signed by the Ministers of Health of Bangladesh, India and Nepal to eliminate kala-azar through intercountry cooperation at an event organized during the World Health Assembly in May 2005. Elimination of kala-azar is a priority for the Region. The Regional Director has constituted a Regional Technical Advisory Group (RTAG) on the subject.
