Abstract
Investigates the sociocultural context of drug problems in an effort to facilitate the planning of prevention and treatment programmes that are sensitive to the sociocultural setting of drug problems. Following an overview of world drug problems, the book uses numerous case studies from African, American, Asian, and European countries to illustrate sociocultural patterns of drug use, different health care approaches to the treatment and management of drug abusers, and the diversity of strategies that have been used to reduce the demand for drugs. Other chapters cover prevention, policy design, and programme planning viewed from the sociocultural perspective
