Abstract: This publication is a report of an intercountry workshop on "Updating and Implementing Intersectoral Food and Nutrition Plans and Policies" held in Hyderabad, India, from 4 to 8 April 2005 with the following objectives: (i) To increase awareness about food and nutrition issues among government and other public authority officials; (ii) To understand, analyse and prepare updated national food and nutrition policies, and (iii) To prepare concerned officials for effective implementation of national plans of action. The document gives details of the technical discussions which focused on issues related to the role of nutritional issues, identification of trends in food and nutrition in society, and recommendations for food and nutrition plans and policies. It contains recommendations for updating intersectoral and integrated national food and nutrition plans and policies, identifies elements and barriers for success as well as emerging and re-emerging issues related to food and nutrition plans and policies. It also contains an account of the deliberations on forging partnerships and putting plans into practice.
