dc.description.abstractNursing and midwifery in the South-East Asia Region faced with the issues of workforce shortage, high maternal and newborn deaths and inadequate nursing and midwifery workforce in delivery public health interventions and primary care. These issues were discussed at the First Meeting of the South-East Asia Nursing and Midwifery Educational Institutions Network (‎SENMEIN)‎ held in Chandigarh, India, in May 2007. The meeting aimed to build capacity of institutions in relation to midwifery education, community nursing education. Participants were from the policy, educational and service sectors. The meeting report highlights the updated information on strengthening nursing and midwifery at the global, regional and institutional levels as well as issues in midwifery education, public health education and community nursing education. The framework on midwifery education, the framework on community nursing education and bylaws of SEANMEIN are also included in the report.en_US
