Title: Report of the regional consultation on management of fellowship programme

Abstract: Fellowship programme management faces problems at various stages starting from initiation to evaluation. Effective coordination among the different stakeholders i.e. the Member States, WHO Country Offices, technical units and the Education and Training Support (ETS) Unit in SEARO is important right from the planning stage to the final implementation, for the success of the fellowship programme. A regional consultation on management of fellowship programme was held at Bangkok, Thailand, during 8-10 February 2011, which was attended by fellowships focal points from Member States in the Region. The principal objective of the consultation was to improve management of the fellowship programme. The regional consultation discussed fellowship management practices including its strengths and weaknesses and proposed ways for improving coordination amongst all stakeholders for ultimate improvement of the system through quality management of fellowships. The report summarizes presentations made by participants from the Education and Training Support Unit, WHO-SEARO and the Member States on their existing fellowships management practices. The report also includes recommendations for Member States, WHO Country Offices and SEARO for overall improvement of fellowship management.
