Situation analysis of vision 2020 in the WHO South-East Asia Region
AbstractWHO published revised estimates of blindness and visual impairment in 2010, and 2010 also marked 10 years of 'Vision 2020'. This publication provides an update on the current eye-care and rehabilitation services in Member States of the WHO South-East Asia Region. The focus has been on the prevalence and causes of visual impairment and blindness; the eye-care infrastructure and human resources; the implementation of WHO strategies for control of 'Vision 2020' priority eye diseases; the status of the 'Vision 2020' national plan implementation; and the strengths and weaknesses of the current prevention of blindness approaches. Appropriate suggestions and recommendations have been provided to strengthen measures for improving eye health.
