|Abstract:||Description: This monograph documents the path pursued by Tamil Nadu in making pregnancy safer and the lessons learnt about improved maternal and neonatal health (MNH) outcomes. The Tamil Nadu experience, and the lessons learnt, can serve as useful pointers for designing and implementing similar programmes in other places. Section 2, which follows, profiles the sociodemographic and economic features of the State of Tamil Nadu. Section 3 examines the environment in the state that enabled it to move toward achieving its vision. Section 4 focuses on how the state transformed rhetoric into reality in MNH interventions. Chapter 5 details the strengthening of public health systems in the state that supported improvements in MNH care. The last chapter looks to current challenges and future initiatives.|
