Abstract: The impact of HIV/AIDS in the countries of the sub-Saharan Africa in tenus of human and economic welfare, life expectancy, education and national security is likely to be inunense as this area, with about 10% of the world's population, accounts for 20,8 million infected cases - almost 70% ofthe global totaJ. When this number is considered in the African context, with a conservative estimate of seven persons per household, the impact is Iikely to be felt by more than 145 million people across the spectrum.
