SEA/RC60/6 - Technical discussions: selection of a subject for the technical discussions to be held prior to the sixty-first session of the regional committee
AbstractThis document indicates the subjects of the Technical Discussions held since 1994 in conjunction with the sessions of the Regional Committee and the Consultative Committee for Programme Development and Management (CCPDM). It also provides a list of proposed subjects for the Technical Discussions to be held prior to the Sixty-first session of the Regional Committee in 2008. The Joint Meeting of Health Secretaries and the CCPDM in July 2007 reviewed the proposed subjects and recommended that the Sixtieth session of the Regional Committee endorse the topic “Revitalizing Primary Health Care” as the subject for Technical Discussions to be held prior to the Sixty-first session in 2008. The Joint Meeting also recommended that a common protocol should be developed in order to produce country experiences on what has been achieved, what is the current situation, and the present and future challenges in the context of changing demographic structures and health needs. Country experiences would be compiled and actions suggested for the way forward in order to initiate an evidence-based primary health care movement. The document is submitted to the Sixtieth session of the Regional Committee for its consideration and decision.
