The tobacco health toll
AbstractSince the release of the famous WHO poster "The Smoker's Body" which highlighted the devastating health consequences of tobacco use, there has been an increase in public demand for more in-depth information on tobacco-related health problems. This publication from the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean provides detailed information for the general publication tobacco-related illnesses and diseases. it is divided into five sections: effects on the body; smoking and general health; women and smoking; smoking and infant and child development; and environmental tobacco smoke. it is hoped that this publications will help people to understand the devastating health consequences to themselves and others of tobacco use and tobacco exposure, and that it will thus be and effective tool, not only in supporting preventive measures at national levels, but also in strengthening tobacco control campaigns throughout the Region
