|Title:||Guide to chemotherapy and chemoprophylaxis in bacterial infections|
|Authors:||World Health Organization, Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean|
|Abstract:||In this edition, a number of recommendations have been updated. The choices of antimicrobials in various infections have been changed where appropriate. This was deemed necessary in view of the fact that some newer drugs have, over the years, gained precedence over established drugs, or because microorganisms have developed resistance to previously recommended antimicrobials. Some dosages and durations of therapy have also been modified where there was agreement from several reliable sources. With regard to criteria for the selection of the appropriate antibiotics, we have continued to Focus on efficacy, safety, suitability and reasonable cost. We hope that this second edition of the guide will be as useful to medical practitioners as the first in the selection of appropriate antibiotic therapy|
